Anyone else excited?

I just saw this on pre-order.......that means it will be out soon.

I wonder if I need to pre order.

Not out until September or something? You still have a bit of a wait.

Looks entertaining. But I have to finish the first one first. It's got the same game engine as the first one, so some of my pet hates of bethesda games (stale voice acting sequences) will be present.

But the developers are the same group that made the very original Fallout games, so they will be passionate and bring some great ideas to the table.

Should be good.

So its the game engine I know but made by the guys that made the classics?

Also I see fallout 1 & 2 are in a pack. Would I enjoy the isometric view one (its either that or the Legend of Zelda on original gameboy!!)?

That's tricky to say. Fallout 3 is built on all the story elements and roleplay mechanics of the originals. VACS and S.P.E.C.I.A.L and the dark humour are all from the originals. But the gameplay experience is obviously very different. Many fans of the originals were not happy with the latest installment.

I found the originals really difficult too. So keep that in mind. (old school)

I think Fallout Vegas will see the return of a couple of factions from the original games. Also the originals were darker than Fallout 3. So perhaps this game will be more twisted. We shall see. Art direction might also be a tiny bit different.

Thats ok.....Im old enough to remember text based adventure games.

You use terms like "art direction", and "character acting"...I think thats a higher level of judgement of a game than I use. I just want a world to immerse myself in every day for a coupla months (like a holiday, thats what Fallout 3 was for me, a holiday to a post apocalyptic world) Very Happy

Looking forward to it. The Fallout 3 addons were a bit lame.

That's seem to be a recurring trend with downloadable content for most games.

It's advertised on Steam now with a release date of October...

Looks remarkably similar to Fallout 3 which, for me, is no bad thing.

Just installed steam the other day, finally decided to install my copy of the Orange Box. Had never used steam previously.

Gotta say I really don't like it. It sucks having to connect to online for an offline game, etc.

I'm frustrated, because I purchased Orange Box on disc. Yet it gets me to install steam, and I have to run it through that, even if it installs off the disk? Rolling Eyes

Anyway, back to New Vegas.

Some people are getting a bit worried with the game. Obsidian, though passionate, are perhaps becoming notorious for repackaging games as sequels. Their recent Alpha Protocol scored very average reviews, and some people are concerned that New Vegas is a cash grab, etc.

Steam grows on you. I find it very very useful to have the majority of my games 'grouped together' for ease of access. Also, if you do a fresh Windows install (like I did recently) it's so much easier just clicking away in Steam to reinstall everything.

Download limits???? I thought they went away 10 years ago!

Well if it's a rehash of Fallout 3 but with a similar number of new missions etc then I won't be too upset because that's pretty much what I would like to see.

Oh I never really bothered with melee. I tended to be very fond on the Chinese Assault rifle and the Vindicator sniper. I forget where I picked that up now though.

In these types of games, I am always a charismatic intellectual with a talent for rifles, medicine and electronics. Laughing

I always found it hard to put down the heavies with guns........but then one day all I had was a hammer and one of those grumpy 7 foot tall Shreks cornered me and I had him down in about 5 easy swings. After I got my Shiskebob the only other weapon I needed was a scoped magnum.

Was it possible to make those rifles etc more effective?

Yeh, I'm usually the stealthy type. I like takedowns where I don't get shot by a single bullet. I'll sneak up on enemies I can kill easily and run away from the stronger ones. Cool In other words, I'm useless when ambushed, or stuck in a corner.

I always start out as a good guy, but by the end I'm usually disillusioned by how ungrateful everyone is.

Not really - the nack with weapons is to carry 4 or 5 around with you and select appropriately. If I was being attacked by lots of Shreks (have you got the expansion pack which creates the uber Shrek Overlord?) then I would kick shit out of them using the gatling laser. Same with anything with big HP, like the albino radscorpion thing (also created with one of the expansions).

I would also usually aim for the limbs unless it's a relatively low HP baddy in which case you just knock off their head!

With expansions there are other weapons unlocked. I think the vindicator sniper is one (can be repaired using old sniper rifles which is useful) and I also have a single shot plasma cannon thing which takes out most things in one or two shots but is MASSIVE.

I have never been much good with stealth which is why, when I play Hitman games, it usually ends up with me slaughtering 100 people.
