Don't like what I hear about the bugs and glitches though cos that's what made Fallout3 painful for me, although I did finish it once.

Nevermind, gonna bite the bullet and try it. Hope it doesn't crash my 320GB hard-drive or I'm gonna lose a ton of data... without an external HDD to do backups..

A game can only crash itself: it's not going to harm anything else on a drive.

What hardware are you running? I never had a single crash with Fallout 3.

I just tried launching the game using a VPN (to get round the shitty local release date) and was greeted by an incompatibility with Windows 64bit message. Hmm I hope this isn't going to be a pain!

MINOR SPOILER

WebHead wrote: Laughing Rus you worry me sometimes.
Guy at work says he went into a village where a lot of bad stuff was happening, some one was nailed to a cross, so he shot him in the head and strangely got an award for it!!

Also all the adds for it on TV involve heavy weapons. Doesn't sound much like a adventure game sometimes.

Had a go at it for 2 hrs last night.

For those who have played Fallout3, NV is almost has a "been there done that" feel although that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Pip-Boy is still there, skills and traits are still there, VAT slo-mo is still fun and Luck continues to be the most important stat of all.

The dialogue is much much better compared to FO3. The graphics are also slightly better - more Borderlands feel to it than FO3.

Radio continues to be entertainting - love the music.

Now I'm gonna investigate a bit further into traits and skill point allocations before restarting.

Apparently very very buggy. I keep hearing of some horribly bad glitches.

You don't have to get it on Steam.

But I generally like Steam. They automatically patch games so if it is buggy that will be a timesaver.

Haha, a lot of the gore involve humans or a least Gods in the image of humans. Grabbing them, ripping them in half, ripping their heads off, pushing their eyes into their brains, birds eating a guy alive...and they're just the things that pop into my head right now.

Yeh, but you feel bad about it. I saw Herra's garden and wasn't too pleased about it. Laughing

Re: Fallout New Vegas

Post by Dave on Wed Oct 27, 2010 4:10 pm

Well I have played this a LOT. I think I am nearing the end but am avoiding the point of no return.

Good points:

It's more Fallout 3
It's not that buggy really
Interaction with followers is much better
Still lots of opportunities to explore
Improved dialogue from NPCs
Followers not as dumb or annoying as in Fallout 3 and they don't keep bleating on with the same phrases
The factions system is quite interesting
Lots of quests

Bad points:

Perhaps TOO much like Fallout 3
It does have bugs
Frame rate suffers in a couple of locations
It's too easy on 'hard' setting. Maybe the hardcore mode would be fun
The plot is interesting but I don't really know what the hell my 'goal' is really.
You can fail quests you don't even have yet by killing certain people or doing certain things.
Too many locations are identical to Fallout 3 locations.
Combat is generally far far too easy. You can deal with almost all situations with just a sniper rifle.
When combat is not easy, it's ridiculously hard and requires many deaths and reloads. For example the deathclaws will kill a high level player with 2 hits.

All in all this is a very addictive game. It has crashed on me about half a dozen times but as it saves after each location change, it's no big deal. The followers are easier to deal with and are less stupid than in Fallout 3. I always knew what I was heading towards (plotwise) in Fallout 3 but with NV I don't and I often find that I have to do things I don't want to. I do like the way that certain quests require a substantial leap in one skill or another so you tend to come back to them later.

Good fun and recommended if you liked Fallout 3.

I actually prefer it to Fallout 3, the Mojave Wasteland is more interesting in general.

It is interesting. One thing I don't like is that you often find yourself walking around an entire mountain range to find access to a location.

Yup, I'm enjoying it too.

Taking my time still, so I've only just left Goodsprings. Cleaned Ringo out playing Caravan.

Ironsights is pretty nice. Sometimes negating the need for VATS, which seems to be dumbed down some for New Vegas.

Supposedly to have started F1 2010 season 2 but playing this only for now Smile

Really? I never got to play caravan. I wandered around buying cards wherever I went but whenever I tried to play it told me I didn't have enough card!

The Dead Money expansion is a bit lame. I have played it for a couple of hours and it seems a bit of a Bioshock ripoff except nowhere near as good.

I have come across the same enemies over and over again as well as the same obstacles and I don't even have any interesting weapons.
