Re: Your local news and happenings
@3:00am, just out on the patio it is 79°F/26°C and 81% humidity. Only a few more weeks of this in Miami and we can turn off the A/C and open the windows for the first time in at least 6 months!

We never have a time when we can open the windows. Here it goes from extremely humid to winter, then back to humid.

I only close the windows when it rains with an easterly wind.
I never switch the heating on.
I don't have air conditioning.
The air is very natural in my apartment.

The world must come to fear our super-prawns!!!

'Supergiant' prawns found in NZ
An expedition to one of the deepest places on earth has discovered a species of huge crustacean that looks like a 28cm prawn.
Scientists scouring the waters of the Kermadec Trench, north of New Zealand, found the "supergiant" amphipods at a depth of 7km.
The team, made up of scientists from the National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research (NIWA) and the University of Aberdeen in the UK, made the discovery when they deployed a camera in an attempt to recover specimens of deep-sea snailfish.
Voyage leader Alan Jamieson, from the University of Aberdeen, recalled: "At the moment the traps came on deck we were elated at the sight of the snailfish as we have been after these fish for years. However, seconds later I stopped and thought 'what on earth is that?' whilst catching a glimpse of an amphipod far bigger than I ever thought possible."
The specimens are the biggest amphipods caught and found at the deepest level.
"The surprising thing here is that we have already been to this deep trench twice and never come across these animals before. In fact a few days after the discovery we deployed all the equipment again on the same site and we failed to photograph or capture a single supergiant; they were there for a day and gone the next," Dr Jamieson said.
Ashley Rowden, from NIWA, said for such a large and conspicuous animal to go unnoticed for so long showed how little we know about life in New Zealand's deepest habitat.
The team will now try to determine why, of the hundreds of species of deep-sea amphipods, these ones have evolved to be so large.

They're that large due to the lack of barbecue grills, clarified butter and cases of New Zealand sauvignon blanc

The only child of late singer Whitney Houston has been rushed to hospital, US media are reporting.
Bobbi Kristina Brown, the 18-year-old daughter of Houston and her former husband Bobby Brown, had been staying at the Beverly Hilton where her mother was found dead yesterday.
Beverly Hills police confirmed she had been transported to an LA area hospital this morning.
A police department watch commander told CBS that Bobbi Kristina had been treated for anxiety.
TMZ reported she had angrily confronted police officers guarding the room where her mother died in the hours after her body was discovered.
Ultimately, she was not allowed into the room and left.
Houston, who ruled as pop music's queen until her voice was ravaged by drug use, died yesterday, aged 48.
Her publicist, Kristen Foster, said the cause of death was unknown, but the TMZ celebrity website said prescription drugs were found in the room and that Houston may have drowned in her bath.
