EA Sports NFS Shift - no good...
Let me start up this section with this thread.
The game looks nice, and all, but one thing is for sure, EA messed up the handling of the car pretty bad. You can't just keep that d*mn car on the track... turn in a bit more, and it shakes it's arse, then it takes a miracle to stabilize it. Even if using a wheel and pedal combo for controller. This is the reason why I went back to old faithful ProStreet/MW combo

Re: EA Sports NFS Shift - no good...
The only EA driving game I've played is the 2002 Formula 1 game. It was OK, but I traded it in after a while as I thought the Studio Liverpool game and Grand Prix Challenge were better. Just about the only things I can remember about it were that the drivers' helmets were impressively reflective, and that the game erroneously used the old Hockenheim.
What are EA driving games like in general? I've heard good things about F1 Challenge '99-'02, but I also get the impression that the company has a bad reputation overall.

the best formula 1 game creators were psygnosis as the best formula 1 game was f1 championship edition aka f1'97.As for nfs shift,i completely agree that the handling is horrible. Its like EA was confused in what the game should be.I tried to play it as a sim game and i would spin out going only 50kph.Then i tried playing it like nfs hot pursuit and couldnt make a single turn.Needless to say i returned it next day.Horrible game, but Forza 3 is fantastic,i highly recommend that game.

Ive played it and found it hard to control at first. But when i got the hang of it i liked it. Way better than the NFS before it.
Best F1 game is F1EC 06. Cant wait for the new 1 to come out for the PS3.
MCL2K10
do you have a PS3 or X BOX? And if so do you play online? And whats the other game you play MW??? Modern Warfare?

Anyone could recommend me a few great racing games today? For computer please?
I just put a downpayment for my first condo and shifting there in December. So I booked an LCD, a surround sound and bought a new CPU to get ready to start gaming again. Haven't played a single game since graduation (more than a YEAR ago)....

Not a fan of shooting games. I'm a minority I know. Wondering when the new Codemasters F1 game will come out in Asia...

I have the G25. But I haven't played any NFS games with it. Stuck with F1CE and Gran Turismo and Dirt 2 for now. I don't have enough to play games as it is.
Funny, friend look at my steering wheel and say waste of money. But I'd buy another one in a heartbeat if this one broke...

Some people can't appreciate driving games, so they say it's a waste of time
Anyway, if you want to try great simulator, get rFactor. The graphics is not so flashy-new-super-duper, but I'd say the physics part is absolutely great

I have GTR 2 and Race 07, etc. They use the same physics engine. The cars are a bit tricky to drive with the steering wheel. I used a controller before and had more success. But as I said, not enough to play games anyway so I do what I can...

I'm looking to get a steering and accel set early next year. How's the brand you're using Web? Do you have lots of vibration and does it present a challenge to steer? Or is it just like a phone vibration which the console controllers have.

Re: EA Sports NFS Shift - no good...
I have Logitech G25, that's usually the one we all drool over. But there is a newer model now. G27? Looks even fancier...
The wheel has 'engines' that simulate force feedback. So when you steer in Formula1 for example, you can feel the weight of the car as you turn the corner. The weight of the steering adjusts to simulate wheel spin, crashes, etc. It has clamps to fit to the table, and believe me these are very much needed.
Overall finish quality is pretty impressive. The wheel is stitched leather, the gearbox looks like its from a car, but there are also plenty of plasticky bits that cheapen the look a little bit. Pedals are excellent.
You have to make sure games are compatible though. Most serious racing games at least support the force feedback.

Re: EA Sports NFS Shift - no good...
Just researched a bit on it, looks like the G27 is something of an upgrade in terms of aesthetics from the G25. But the G25 specs seem to be great anyway.
I might go for the G27 a few months from now because for some reason the market price difference is pretty small...nearly USD100. I would've expected a bigger difference since the G25 has been out since 3 years ago.

So can anyone tell me which of the recent NFS titles is actually worth buying? Some of the might even be in the bargain bin now.

I'm playing NFS - Underground 2 now and it seems to be pretty good. And since its an old one, you might get it very cheap too.

Shift... I think it's an improvement upon the older ones, but that's only because I'm a sim racer and don't like arcade racing games
The physics are still way off though, i.e. even with damage on full it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

What have you done with the controller settings, coz for me it's very hard to keep the car on line, it likes to waggle it's tail, then it's even harder to stabilize it... Driving rFactor F1 2009 sim with no TC is much easier for instance, and rFactor is pretty accurate on car physics...

No, I was actually asking about the setup for your driving wheel (I presume you use a wheel
). Settings like sensitivities, etc.

You could probably google wheel settings on the internet.
So are you guys telling me not to buy any of the NFS games?

Re: EA Sports NFS Shift - no good...
Do you want a racing sim? Then no. Buy Forza or Gran Turismo (depending on which console you have) instead.
Do you want a game that's more of a "just for fun" arcade racer with less regard for physics? Then go ahead and play NFS games.
