What Should Ferrari Do?
Silly Season: Massa to Sauber, Kubica to Ferrari
Rumour - Massa to Sauber, Kubica to Ferrari
"Of course I read all the rumours"
Wednesday 22 September 2010 - 09h45, by GMM
Rumours of driver movements within the top teams are yet again gaining traction.
Recently, a Spanish television station reported that, notwithstanding the existence of new contracts, Felipe Massa and Robert Kubica could be set to swap seats for 2011.
The Swiss publication Motorsport Aktuell is now reporting a similar rumour, whereby Massa would leave Ferrari at the end of the season to make room for Pole Kubica.
But the report said Brazilian Massa would be accommodated not by Renault but by Ferrari powered Sauber, where he drove as a rookie in 2002 and again in 2004-2005.
"Of course I read all the rumours," Kubica said in an interview with spox.com, "but in the end the only thing is winning.
"We are all here because we want to win and you need the best car for that. Currently I’m at Renault and so I am focused on this team and on improving together.
"In 2011 we want to fight for the world title. We’ll see what happens next," the 25-year-old added.
Kubica admitted that he would like to race for Ferrari one day.
"In karting, Formula Renault and F3, I’ve always been with Italian teams and I even lived for more than a year near Monza.
"Ferrari is a team unlike any other," he acknowledged. "The emotion and the history is unique. I think every driver would like to drive for Ferrari."

It wont happen next year but maybe in 2012. But i cant see Ferrari hiring Kubica to challenge Alonso. Why would they do that? They will only hire another number 2 so Massa is safe for now

Same reason Mclaren hired Button. Harmony is possible between two drivers.

Hire Kubica - it's a no brainer. He's one of the best on the grid.

Not when Alonso is one of the drivers.

Massa has a contract for next year. So unless Ferrari wants to pay him for doing nothing for next year ( like they did for Kimi ), I doubt they will fire him for now. Besides, with Alonso in the other seat, I doubt they would replace Massa with a better driver like Kubica.

I think there's the possibility of Massa wanting to leave.

Alonso and Kubica are known to be friends. But I don't know how long it would last if they would be in the same team (especially if Kubica would be quicker than Fonzy
)

That could be true but I think he would prefer to stay at Ferrari and be beaten by Alonso ( and get the odd win or podium) rather than go to a Sauber and get beaten by Kobayashi ( with no podium or win in sight )

Maybe Ferrari are unhappy with Alonso.

Even if they are, I doubt they want to make Santandar leave.
Darn, I think i have been afflicted by the "respond to every post/ mail" syndrome that Steve Jobs suffers from

Do you think you are the greatest person on the planet? That's a typical sympton of a Steve Jobs related syndrome.

Lol. Thankfully not. Seems like I am only partially afflicted so far

That's a load. No point discussing it. Alonso has no created any situations since he left Mclaren and Lewis, Ron.
He gets TO's in his favour once this year and he's a villain. I'm saying he's snow white but he's far from the villain he's portrayed to be.

Well, he had no Hamilton as a team mate since then.

^ Yes, indeed, both drivers were responsible for the McLaren fall-out in 2007.

If they were unhappy with Alonso, how unhappy would they be with Massa then?

Yes, but I wasn't thinking to what you're thinking. Hamilton was responsible because he drove too well.

Well, although his superb rookie performance considerably contributed to the mess, his and his fathers behaviour did so, too (MC, Budapest, AHs lobbying with RD, ...). LH was not an innocent lamb in this affair, that's for sure.

What's clear to me is Alonso must be the most popular driver by a good margin, judging for how almost every post ends up talking about him.
