V8 Supercars

Post by f1-cobra on Thu 26 Nov - 8:24:56

Being as this area is new and there is nowhere else to post this, I had to start a thread for this awesome series. Very Happy I really like the V8 Supercars and it looks like I might get to watch these races on TV now.

V8 Supercars secure US TV deal
AAP - November 25, 2009, 12:41 pm

The V8 Supercars will be broadcast to over 79 million subscribers in America after the championship signed a deal with FOX Sports USA.

The three-year deal will see Australia's premier motorsport category broadcast on the SPEED network, the same cable channel which shows NASCAR, Formula One, MotoGP and several other series to a north American audience.

The deal will see the V8 Supercars televised in the States the weekend after each event.

In the past, V8s have only been shown to an American audience as replays at the conclusion of the NASCAR Sprint Cup series.

V8 Supercars Australia executive chairman Tony Cochrane said the deal is a big step in developing the sport's international brand.

"This is a fantastic and exciting relationship for V8 Supercars," Cochrane said.

"There is no question that SPEED in North America is the foremost network with regards to motorsport coverage and is the pinnacle platform in our sport - to be held in such regard by this highly professional organisation is a great testament to the quality of our television coverage and our racing."

The American coverage will begin with a broadcast of next month's season-ending Sydney 500.

I read that in today's paper. Good news and i hope that maybe one day V8SUPERCARS goes over to the big U S of A to race mrgreen Not sure how it would go as you guys have much bigger motorsports to enjoy.

Any hopefully the American viewers start to watch in droves and that should lead to bigger and better things for our main series.

Go 888

I can see V8 Supercars appealing to an American Audience.

I bet if it catches on they will be racing in the USA.

I was thinking of watching the next season...I kinda went off the series when they ditched the Japanese Touring cars and just had V8s only.

V8s have become a VERY UNIQUE series in this day and age. It is a testament to the fan base that this type of formula still exists today. Even DTM has begun to lose its way.

I would vote for a Watkins Glen or Laguna Seca round of the championship. The Holden will be sold as a Chevy(?) anyway, so why not? Good publicity.

It will be interesting to see if they are instantly quick in a Holden. And I wonder where they will source their engine from? Also, many teams get their parts from triple 8, I wonder if switching manufacturer will affect things.

Can't believe Ford didn't just pay triple 8 whatever it was they were asking for...

V8 Supercars are awesome. I watched them as part of the Australian GP in Melbourne in 2008. I haven't watched them after that but i still remember the way the cars made their way onto the track. I was on the schumacher grandstand and the cars used to enter the track from the pits just in front of the grandstand. It was awesome. Very Happy

Taurus are Front Wheel Drive - A creation of a RWD Aurion or Camry seems as likely.

But seriously if they kill the Falcon Supercars would be a bit of a one make series.

That's an understatement methinks. Laughing

Ford Australia will probably end up taking delivering of Taurus chassis, which they will modify and implement rear-wheel drive. They may even repackage it with different body/detailing, and stick a Falcon label on it. Presumably this car will not be competitive against purpose built Commodore.

I guess they could name a Taurus a Falcon and change the body panels.

NOT ANYMORE Wink

looks like the new mustang in 2014 will be based on the same platform as the Falcon as part of their one ford program, the mustang will benefit from a superior suspension set up away from the dreaded leaf spring mentality of the US

PS GM has not approved any money for the next Gen Commodore only money for the Daewoo Cruze that will be built in Aus next year

so who knows in 2015 it might be Focus vs Cruze Razz

Aussie Supercars can adapt if they have to.

More worrying is the future of the Aussie manufacturing industry.....if any of the 4 manufacturers pulls out it could destroy the industry as a whole due to them sharing contributory industries.

One wishes they would continue to make the big RWD saloon cars in Aussie (plus adding a RWD Camry/Aurion or Mitsi 360 as has been discussed in the past).

Mitsubishi seems to be fast disappearing from... everywhere. So forget about them. V8 Supercars will probably have to go running to Toyota and try to give them plenty of incentives to join up.
