Dead Space

Post by Dave on Sun Nov 29, 2009 2:40 am

Anyone tried it? It was on special at Steam for 15USD so I thought I would give it a go. Played a few hours and so far it's pretty good! Very atmospheric with plenty of jumpy moments. Reminds me a bit of the old Doom series but without the stupid random spawns etc. The graphics are awesome and the gameplay is good. The zero gravity bts are a little annoying though.

How open is the game world? Is it like most FPS where you start at one end, finish at the other, have a fun 30mins on a level but if you backtrack through all the completed stuff you realize you didnt walk very far and the world isnt that real?

I am going to call you non-linear Rus from now on. Laughing

It is not open at all and it's set on a space ship so I guess it's not meant to be huge. However, I have played for a good few hours now and haven't got bored which is pretty good for me.

I have been frustrated a couple of times but still having fun!

Rus does seem to have super-high expectations of modern games. Laughing

Yes I do. Far Cry 2 is going well. But I notice the lack of civilians, the abundance of safe houses and the easy similarity of missions.

Oh to operate in a working world pale

But if its on a space ship you have a plot device to allow a smaller world.

Anyone play Left 4 Dead?

Dave, I'm planning to buy it but just can't find it in my town.

Is the plot good and interesting to follow? If yes, I'll buy it on some website, because I really do prefer a linear game if the line to follow takes you across interesting paths...

The plot is pretty good for a game. It's not as smart as Bioshock but it's better than the majority of these types of games. Also the voice acting is very good.

I have just started from scratch. I got so far into the game, reached a very tough bit and realised I didn't have the firepower to deal with it. Gone back to the start and done everything a bit more wisely this time!

I've played Left 4 Dead and it is a pretty linear game. You have to go from one point to another and kill lotsa zombies on the way to complete the level. The real fun of the game is playing with your friends and helping each other out from the zombies. Single player mode is a bit boring as the AI is a bit too efficient and ends up saving you all the time Very Happy .

Thanks Dave, I'll definitely purchase it. The Ishimura is waiting for me I guess.

And Webhead, yes, I love Mass Effect!. Well, I just started to play (about 4-5 gameplay hours) it but its story is great, just like the way it is told and the gameplay!

You should try all of Bioware's games, they are top shelf. I also enjoy non-violent adventure games like Longest Journey, broken sword, Syberia, etc.

It's a good game. I got it a while back, not long after it came out. Embarassed to say I haven't finished it. But that's not an indication of the quality of the game. It's just one of those games I need to be in the mood for. I don't always feel like shitting my pants Laughing Got to be the scariest game I've played since Silent Hill 2. Awesome graphics, amazing and scary in surround sound and very very atmospheric.

So it's definitely a good game! I'd also love if it could scare me, and it seems so...

WebHead, from Bioware I've only played to MDK 2, an incredible game but not what they are used to do. I'll try to play to some more games of them.

And I really like graphic adventures, no doubt! The Longest Jouney saga is one of my favorites (waiting for the third) and Syberia it's okay too but no one tops Grim Fandango in my ranking. Ah, Manny Calavera, when I will get as classy as you Cool

No problems, I could delete it, but then, I'd have to delete your follow up post, and then I'd have to delete this post. So... pirat

Ah, Grim Fandango. What a special game. I always found it to be so sad. You know what I mean I'm sure. Such a sad world for everyone. Do you have your ticket for the express train? Shocked

Shame that those types of games aren't so common anymore. I tried playing Culpa Annata but I couldnt get into it.

Actually the zero g bits aren't as annoying once I got used to them. Haven't played for a couple of weeks now. I think I got stuck at a certain point. Will have another bash after I get back from Xmas hols!

Has anyone played the new Wii game "Dead Space Extraction"? I don't have a Wii of my own but I could always use my roommate's... although I heard the game was pretty mediocre compared to the original game.

And Dead Space 2 was announced some time ago, that one I am excited for.
