Anyone for Ping Pong?

Post by Mach on Sat Jan 14, 2012 4:17 am

HELP!!!!

I got "sucked" into a Corporate ping-pong tournament...one of those "raw-raw-raw" things! I've nothing against ping-pong, its just something you can't practice without access to a ping-pong table Rolling Eyes

Can anyone here give me a couple pointers? Nothing complecated. I don't have desire to win this thing as I'm sure there's no way.

I just don't want to come in DEAD last place Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Razz

You need to locate two things:
1, A ping pong table
2, A helpful chinese person

If you haven't played before, there is no way you can beat someone who has played for a few years, so just enjoy it Razz . Ping Pong looks easy but its not as easy it looks, especially if the other guy is a decent player.

I am the best ping pong player I've ever encountered, and I just use my tennis grip. It works very well.

I'm sure one of those pros would make me look really stupid though.

So I recommend brushing up over the ball like you would in tennis.

Which grip WebHead? Double handed forehand? Double handed backhand? Laughing

I was a serve and volley type tennis player which meant I used continental grip. I didn't like staying on baseline like my friends did. I always played the angles and ran like hell and applied presure. I sucked when we played on clay though. My weakness was against the back-spin guys. I hatted those players the most.

I guess I'll go with my strength and use continental grip. There are 30 participants in the tournament. We originally was to start next week, but organizer has the flu meaning we'll probably start early February.

If your opponent is any good, he can beat a novice without giving away a single point. I remember the first time I played Ping Pong as a kid, I couldn't return a single serve. To make things even more embarrassing, he positioned a kid on one side of the board to catch the balls whenever he was serving. Whichever way I tried, the ball would touch my bat and go straight to the other kid where he was standing Embarassed . Of course, I have come a long way from then now Laughing .
