Childhood Food
I'm enjoying cinnamon toast and coffee on a very cold morning. Its -14c outside right now!!
I couldn't help but remember how my mum used to prepare cinnamon toast and hot choclate for me when I was a kid after coming in from a long afternoon of street ball hockey with my pals
So, what great childhood memory do you have with food?

Re: Childhood Food
Every Sunday we would have a Roast dinner, meat, veggies, roast potatoes, Yorkshire Puddings and Gravy.
The meat was usually chicken but if dad had a good week in work the budget might run to a piece of beef.
However Sunday roast wasn't my best memory it was Monday's dinner.
Cold meat left over from Sunday, mashed potato and baked beans. Any left over roast potatoes and veggies would be put in the mash, so nothing was wasted

When I was a little kid, there's this Indian man selling "roti prata" in the neighbourhood. Yummy! Its some sort of dough/bread dip in curry!
I understand its something local, in India they don't even sell this.

Ofcourse you can get that in India. Roti is the one where you fry it without oil and Paratha is a little thicker than Roti and it is normally fried with a little oil.

I haven't have it for a long time. When I feel better will try to tuck in one piece.

Another favourite was Pie & Mash!

Not so much a meal more like an event and until you've experienced it is hard to describe the way a meat pie, lumpy mashed potato and the so called "liquor" along with malt vinegar infused with chillies can combine to a unique taste.

But this can only be fully apprieciated when eaten in a true, old style Pie and Mash shop!

Re: Childhood Food
My cousin's dad used to make amazing roti cinai, so that is my preference. I think it is pretty much the same except served with chicken curry.
I lived at home or near mum for so long and only just moved away, so most childhood dishes have been regulars for a long time.
I suppose I haven't had 'hundreds and thousands' on buttered bread since I was a kid!

What about your favorite candy whilst growing up? I remember jaw-breakers, Popeye cigarettes, licorice strings.
My favorite was sweet peppermint leave chewies.
