Tier 3 (enough speed, but make too many mistakes/not enough racecraft) - Bottas, Massa, Perez, Magnussen, Grosjean, Maldonado, Kvyat, Sutil, Kobayashi

Tier 4 (simply not good enough racer despite some good days. Do not belong to f1) - Vergne, Gutierrez, Chilton, Ericsson.

A fair summary esterence but as often the case the Tiers are based on past history and reputations that may have been built when driving the "car of the year."

Fair assessment - but Ricciardo belongs in the top tier based on this year.

On second thoughts you are probably right. I was thinking more in the sense that this is his only year in a top car and need more evidence, while completely forgetting his Toro Rosso drives. Embarassed

Agreed with this, although I tried to take into account on the relative performances of the cars, hence why Hulk and Bianchi is rated so highly. If Kubica is still in F1 he will easily be up there too

I know its a small margin between them, but small margins are what make the real difference between winning and not being remembered*

*Apart from Alonso, his margins are more or less always HUGE! If Kimi was a rookie he would be out for sure.

If you call pushing too hard and then making a mistake a fail then I agree. All drivers who are faster than their team mates are faster due to their team mate's fails though. Their failure to be fast enough, their failure not to make mistakes, etc...

Although overall I rate Hamilton higher than Nico, there have been races where Nico has been faster. Brazil was one of those.

Not sure what race you watched. If you define being faster by finishing ahead of your teammate after your teammate makes a 7 sec mistake then yes he was faster. It all goes back to the mistake and only to the mistake.

Did Nico have fastest lap?
1 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1’13.555 62
2 Nico Rosberg Mercedes 1’13.619 62

Did Nico pull away by .5 sec per lap?
Did Nico put in a blistering lap on worn out tires?

"On the lap before his spin, Hamilton produced the fastest lap of the race up to that point, seven-tenths of a second quicker than the previous best. After his second pit stop he took 1.7 seconds out of Rosberg in two laps, then consistently chipped away at the gap between them by up to half a second per lap."

My only question is why was Hamilton asked to do another lap when he already had enough time to jump ahead of his teammate?

Did I say it was a conspiracy?
I was asking and found it interesting that he was asked to do another lap on shot tires.
And just to entertain the conspiracy zingy he doesn't need to spin. What do you think happens when a driver that just put in the fastest lap of the race on old tires is asked to go again? Ding ding ding we have a winner.....his next lap will be crap. He doesn't need to spin. He just has to lose more than what he gained on his first run.

It's called a mistake by Hamilton , and indeed he admitted it, himself. Ding ding is right. Lewis's first sector was faster than that of Nico's on new tyres on the spin lap... but don't let facts get in the way of your argument.

Nico was ahead of Lewis in every session in Brazil, including the one that counts - the race.  To me that means he had the better of Lewis in Brazil.

If you're trying to say Nico only won because Lewis made a mistake, I'm saying Lewis only made a mistake because he pushed the car and tires too far trying to catch Nico.
