Empire Total War

Post by Dave on Tue Dec 15, 2009 11:19 am

I have been playing Total War games since God was a boy and keep dipping back into Medieval II. Anyway I thought I would get Empire as the games always were more fun once you had discovered gunpowder.

Very disappointing. The campaign map is ok: don't have any gripes there. But the actual battles are crap now. The controls are far less intuitive now and so slow to respond that you over-compensate and rotate and tilt way more than you wanted to. The little blokes look good but it's just no longer any fun controlling the battles.

All I can say is boo sucks. I was looking forward to giving Johnny Frenchman a bloody nose too. pale

Since Ive been living in this town for a month or so my mate has introduced me to various games such as Company of Heroes and Supreme Commander,

We do about 50/50 co-op and 50-50 vs.

So intense you loose 3 hours or more staring at the 40 inch screen!!!

I like base building games, Company of Heroes did a good job converting WW2 to this style, I had never seen that before.

Yes i't excellent. The third installment did away with the building element though which spoiled it.

Oh OK, I dont know which Ive got. There certainly is some base building. I think it might be the original from 2006.

Had a funny game the other day.....after a 2 and a half hour arm wrestle, my mates American Infantry was pushing me back and I was close to collapse. So I just managed to get 6 tanks together and raided his main base and blew everything up. He never recovered and I captured most of the territory 15 mins later Very Happy . If it were Age of Empires I dont think such a recovery from the brink of death would have happened as easily.

I never get chance to play online much these days. Got cable internet here so the speeds vary from super-fast to utter crap. On top of that I am in a weird timezone where the majority of games players are non-English speakers.

Ha, we should have a game sometime (though I must admit I dont currently own CoH or Total War yet Embarassed ).

What kind of game is Total War....I have read just a little about it...is it worth buying an older version on special.

Yeah, well CoH is a bit weird in that you dont exactly defend your base in the same way as other games (in which I usually create mega fortresses).

Anyone played Supreme Commander?

Yes Rus. The older ones are much better. I recommend Rome Total War. That's probably the best of the lot.
