Fernando Alonso - 9th: "A slightly different Friday to usual for me, as it was the first one with my new team. We concentrated mainly on comparing the two types of tyre, so as to be as well prepared as possible for the race on Sunday, trying to get a car that performs consistently over a long run. Obviously, with such high temperatures, tyre degradation was more rapid, especially with the rears. From what we could see, the indications we got from testing have been confirmed, with four teams that you could describe as favourites, although there could yet be a few surprises, Force India for example. The new track is not bad: it is fun, even if there are a few too many bumps which I hadn't spotted when I inspected it by bicycle."

Felipe Massa - 7th: "We worked a lot on finding the right balance on the car in race trim and on comparing the two types of tyre, running with various fuel levels, although never going for a quick time. I am quite happy with what we have seen today, even if it is difficult to get an accurate picture of how competitive we are compared to the others. We will definitely face stiff competition from many teams, but we were preparing as well as possible for Sunday's race and tomorrow morning, we will work on qualifying. I've got a bit of a temperature today, but I feel 100% for this start to the season."

Chris Dyer: "We are reasonably pleased with the work done today. We had a very busy programme and we got through just about all of it: the only problem was a loss of air from a tyre on Alonso's car which interrupted his long run. We picked up a lot of data which we will use to decide on set-up and strategy for the rest of the weekend. It's hard to say where we are compared to the other teams in terms of performance and we will only find that out tomorrow afternoon. The new part of the circuit is rather narrow and at some points the surface is very bumpy, but it does not present any particular problems for the car."

Stefano Domenicali: "We had set ourselves an agenda based on preparation for Sunday's race and we are pleased with what we have seen so far. Even more so than in the past, it is difficult to get an idea of the pecking order on Friday, because the fuel levels of the cars during these three hours of running can vary quite considerably. Now, we must try and prepare as well as possible for tomorrow's qualifying, which will be difficult and closely contested for a variety of reasons, without losing sight of the fact that the points are only handed out on Sunday afternoon."

A couple of times this week I have seen a boat cruising outsine of our place that is the most beautiful color red, has a prancing horse on the side as well as the logo F440 in the Ferrari font style. I'll be damned if I could get my phone or camera fast enough to get a picture of it....so far. I'll get a picture at some point as it's home is the marina just down the water from us.

In the meantime, I googled for it and here is a video with some pictures.

Very good performance and comeback of Felipe....he really deserved this third place, without any doubt! Alonso quite average at the start, but 4th in the end 👽 ...good result for the team (in Australia) compared to 2008 and 2009...
Last victory down under in 2007 with Kimi ( what a great day) , follwed by these two bad years, was not nice to watch, but 2010 compensated that a lot! sunny

Wasn't F40 the fastest road car at one point? I think after 300kph, the speed of the road cars become quite irrelevant, though.

The F40 was the quickest accelerator. I agree top speed is irrelevant, but it is a status thing isnt it?

Of course, Ferrari can be proud of themselves if they produced the fastest car in the world.

I wonder if their car was the fastest at some point in the history. The owner of that honour has changed quite a few times, and I think some time during late 80s, F40 was the fastest road car.

I've just done an internet research on this:

Im fascinated by the history of the land speed record (both the ultimate one and also road cars).

Do you think Ferrari would go for the record nowadays, or would it ruin their image of building cars that are beautiful, technological, quick point to point, and even more reliable (by supercar standards)?

It looks like Ferrari is not that interested in speed record at the moment. I think they are more into the technology side, trying to transfer their knowledge from F1 into their road cars. That will solidify their image as the leader in luxurious sport car. However, their direction will change if and when the new management comes in. Who knows? Maybe in the future, the new CEO of Ferrari will want to build the fastest road car on earth. I remember Enzo Ferrari loved powerful engine and if he was still alive today, he might have ordered his employees to produce one. They should be capable of doing that.

Ferrari engines are very powerful in relation to their small size and lack of turbos!!!
