Gary, no other available driver would have gone as close as Alonso in any of those Ferrari cars in the last 4 years. It was mostly down to how intelligent + skillful Alonso's driving is, and the former trait is very underrated in F1. For e.g. Hamilton is as good a driver, but not so intelligent.

We don't know that, do we? Alonso has a highly inferior teammate that probably makes him look better than he actually is.

Don't get me wrong, Alonso is a great driver, and as much as I hate to admit it, he seems to be Prost "light". Calculating, cool headed and intelligent, but only "light" because Prost beat a bunch of world champions to win his WDCs, some were even driving the same car, while in case of Alonso he only had an equal teammate in only 1 season and we saw the result. "Last year I didn't feel like I had the car to win 10 races," Hamilton told The Independent. "But this year I feel I have a car that can win 10 races. The tyres are going to play a massive part of that, but I truly believe in this car. It feels awesome. It feels like it's there with the Red Bulls and the Lotuses. [In Hungary] I think our pace was very similar.

"If we can continue with that qualifying pace, get ourselves up front and have the tyres working as they did, we can fight with them. The Mercedes is different to other cars I've driven. It's one of the best. The 2008 McLaren was pretty good. I want to say the Mercedes is even better than that."
Lol load of bullshit. Last year's Mclaren car is certainly much faster, much better, only reliability sometimes let him down. He dominated so many races last season and he can't seem to remember it now.

I guess it is also how it feels for him. Maybe the Mercedes just feels better to drive.

Either way I hope he cheers up, he's looked depressed this season lol

Better than the 2008 Mclaren? I think that's the funniest quote I have heard in a decade.

Its not even close to last year's car speed, and I would also say the car 2 years ago was marginally better than this.

Anyway, the new engine sound is a bloody joke. Can't believe it. Sound like some indy car.

Not even close? What are you talking about? The Merc was more than a second faster than the qualifying time in the Mclaren last year at Hungaroring.

And who cares about the sound? I want to see good racing with technological advanced cars, not some dumbed downed V8 from the last centuary... if that results in a turbo charged V6 or a V12, I couldn't care less.

Well, I care about sound. Hopefully they don't sound too pathetic buzzing around the track.

You don't watch the races with the TV muted do you?

Yeah, because we can now compare cars between seasons as compared to, in the season in the respective fields.

No why would I want to mute my TV? Smile
I'm not talking about cars going silent, just the characteristics of the sound.

If the sound is anything near the previous F1 V6 sound I would almost say it's a step up... but if it's not the case, I don't mind... it will just be another type of sound.

nothing new... there were I4 engines with turbo in F1 before, you know... Razz
on second thought, V6 turbos, are gonna be something new!!! Laughing

on the other hand, beeeeep the sound, who, cares? if the sound makes you piss in your pants an there is zero racing how good is that? ?? ?

I mean i coundn't care less about the sound until there is decent racing and battles for position. Sound will always be bone shakin' and nerve wrackin' in F1, no matter the engine formula.... hopefully Laughing

Re: Daily News Thread

Mark Webber :

"Um — am I going to miss Seb?" he pondered. "Probably not a huge amount, no.

"I think in a competitive environment, there’s always going to be a bit of needle; there’s a lot of history between us as well."

That ’history’ came to a head in Malaysia this year, when Vettel disobeyed a team order and passed Webber for victory.

Asked by Clarkson if he felt like punching Vettel afterwards, Webber said: "My dad always says you shouldn’t hit boys, mate."

Lol ... what a wanker. 5 years in a row losing to Seb has to take it's toll. I really like Mark, we are going to miss him - but saying stupid $shit like this just makes him look a bit off. Seb did wrong in Malaysia yes - no one will argue that - but Webber was no angel on many occasions himself.

You have no case. Webber has no reason to like Vettel, and many reasons not to like him.

It's refreshing to listen to a driver and not their press manager.

Re: Daily News Thread

I think it's refreshing to hear as well, we get the real story. However it shows poorly on Webber at this stage to call Vettel a boy when he's has his ass kicked 5 years in a row by this "boy." Mark's always maintained his class and decorum , but on this occasion he's off of it ..

A few points about Webber.

- No one put a gun to his head to drive alongside Vettel 5 years.

- The only year he could have won the WDC - he threw it away with his injury. I wish he would have won that year - it would have been a different story in the garage from that point on.

- He's played the victim on many occasions and has been no angel himself.

- He's had the best car since 2010 and where are all his second places in the championship?

I thought Webber refers to Vettel's off-track behaviour à la "spoilt child".

But apart from that I agree with you, Zing.

Nothing in my comment is incorrect. Also I didn't say it was the best, but thinking about it, it is often the best on its day (usually a Saturday).

It's not looking good for Sauber...I sincerely hope they find a way out of their mess.

I swear backmarkers had more sponsorship a few years ago!
