Hey, lets talk about that young guy who blazes through F1 ranks in abysmally bad car by his talent only and is best of the rest after those untalented hacks driving the invincible Merc!

I am naturally talking about the 3rd in points Kimi Räikkönen, latest Ferrari WDC, and car developer unparallel on current paddock

I just hope he is an good as his Dad once was...  how I remember how quick he was while at McLaren, fastest out there by a mile!!

If only he had learnt to speak English or even just to speak he would have gone a long way..

Good luck to the new kid on the block....

Ooo, you sure hit low blows. You do know he speaks like he does because he had accident as kid that affected his voice? Of course you do, but lets make fun of great driver anyway, riiight.

Will Apple buy F1?

Boy does that sound far-fetched. "F1 is for sale, Apple has a lot of money... it's a no-brainer!" ;-)

Not saying Apple might not be interested in a profitable business, it's just that the article makes no case for it at all.

If Apple did;

They would immediately ban the use of any phones except iPhones.

All teams would be required to replace all computing equipent with overpriced Apple products.

Hewlett Packard's sponsorship would be outlawed.

Pirelli would lose the tyre concession and teams would be required to run on;

Sounds wishy-washy to me:

“We will have much less degradation in 2017 and tyres will – if we achieve what we are trying to achieve – have a wider operating window,” said Hembery.

[...]

Having said that, we will still try to achieve some level of degradation.”

I wonder if F1 is going to turn from a tyre-saving formula into a fuel-saving formula next season - like Formula E.

I don't think so as the fuel limit is going up for next year.  I know the cars will
be faster and heavier, so use more, but at least it is being covered...

If it turns into a woeful Formula E type formula I will take up knitting...

You are probably correct Zag.

Some races, it appears that fuel is marginal, so if they can thrash the tyres more fuel will be burnt and become an issue.

I'm wondering if running out of fuel isn't a safety issue, teams will nit be allowed to advise drivers that they need to go to a fuel saving setting and/or driving style.

F1 is just a mess, let's get back to balls out racing!

Senna and others will be turning in their graves.

Absolutely agree!!

Far too many rules and regulations and why in the pinnacle of our sport there should be
such a thing as fuel restrictions I just don't know.
Perhaps they could save fuel by sending all the cars and paraphernalia by boat instead
of by 'plane...  should be about 5 races per year..

Perhaps Apple should buy the franchise......    and we can watch iFone  (i-F1, groan..)

Looks like Monza is finally being shown the door. Luckily, Imola seems to be replacing it. Very very sad, as it is a unique track on the calendar and always produces interesting races, but good to see another historic track taking its place and not some run off infested circuit in the desert.

Re: Daily News Thread

Post by F1 forever on Thu Jul 21, 2016 9:42 pm

Huh? Radio rules tightened up:

F1's radio rules state the driver must drive his car "alone and unaided" but came after scrutiny after the British Grand Prix, when Nico Rosberg was demoted from second to third for a breach. That penalty came after Mercedes had informed him of how to fix a faulty gearbox towards the end of the race, avoiding a retirement in the process.

The new rules now state a team must call a driver in to the pits if he suffers a similar issue, where it will then be able to talk to the pilot, meaning the new penalty is effectively a drive-through penalty.

http://www.espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/17119405/sebastian-vettel-slams-updated-radio-rules

Didn't see this coming at all! I thought they'd go in the opposite direction...

So Allison leaves Ferrari after all, despite Arrivabene's persistent claims to the contrary...

His credibility took a big hit in my view, not so much because he refuted the rumours earlier (he obviously couldn't confirm them before), but because of the way he refuted them. Makes you wonder if his position is as secure as he claims that it is.

Can't shake off the feeling that the Ferrari is a lot better than the results suggest so far. Not a match for the Mercedes, but they never seem to come close to extracting the maximum out of the car at any weekend. Also Vettel doesn't look like himself anymore. Horner seems to be right about him needing a positive team-spirit around him to perform at his best. "Mr. Grumpy" adds quite a bit to the entertainment with his radio messages, though!

Good news!  cheers

No Halo in 2017, and the radio ban has been lifted completely starting right now. While that means "driver coaching" will be back in full force (sigh!), at least the teams now have to make their entire radio communication public, which should add immensely to the entertainment!

It's just crazy how the FIA somehow isn't able to establish a rule that clearly forbids driver coaching (braking points, driving lines etc.) while allowing radio communication when it comes to technology-related issues. I mean how simple is that? Instead, they keep overshooting the mark in both directions with rather shitty results.

I feel they need a few "outsiders" there who simply share the "casual fan" (common sense) perspective, and regulate from that vantage point. It's like they cannot see the woods for the trees anymore.

They are a little hopeless. They can't seem to find a sweet spot, or perhaps they don't really try to. Perhaps they are starting to listen to the teams, drivers and maybe even the fans a little more.

It's like there are no rules 'cause there is no criteria to enforce them. The fact that we always see the message Car number XX is under investigation for... indicates that they are being subjective in the application of the rule.

They just stop to care. They've been off course for so many years that they just don't care anymore.
