Earthquake Relief Donations...
Dear Friends,
It is now feared that many, many, THOUSANDS are injured or trapped in collapsed buildings in Haiti from today's earthquake.
It is said that several important hotels have collapsed, that hundreds of UN personnel are trapped and that even the President's own palace is rubble.
We cannot therefore even begin to imagine the suffering of the 5 million poor inhabitants of the capital city, Port au Prince, at the epicenter.
This is a disaster that may well equal in death and suffrering the Indonesian Tsunami of a few years ago.
I therefore ask that if you have a moment or two, you please spare a mere dollar or two for their medical and rescue relief, from your kind hearts after reading this.

Thank You, so, so, much.

On January 12, a magnitude 7.0 quake struck about 10 miles (15 kilometers) southwest of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince. MSF teams on the ground have witnessed significant damage to its medical facilities, injuries to patients and staff, and an influx of wounded towards these hospitals in the capital.

My heart goes there, saw it in extended News report today.
It could happen anywhere, to anyone.

Most British banks have a system where you can just go in and donate money when there is a major disaster.
Disaster Emergency Committee
Does any other country have a similar system?

You may dont want to read this....
There are few banks who deal with helplines like this.
But in a history, I heard at they dont give money out instantly,
maybe after two years until they had made enough profit of it them self's.
Same with Salvation Army. Then when disaster like this happens,
we get even doorknockers and advertisements on a TV and paper.
Or even in computer, they advertise to help people in Haiti.
So fantastic those people keep all money they collected for them self's.
Just send money here and there.
I am cynist and I dont trust any of it, how few dollars end's up really there where needed.
Most of it being eaten by administrations of it.
So many kind trusting people helped for Indonesian Tsunami from here,
less than 50% of it went where it was needed.
Sorry to say that

Hi Miss Finn,
Doctors Without Borders is very honest.
They refused all Tsunami funds when their mission to the area was fully funded.
Cordial Best,

I trust your word's 00521.
I see if I can dig some money.
Even if Haitian Government is not very resourceful,
the innocent people of the country are who suffers most.

Re: Earthquake Relief Donations...
The DEC system seems to work well as it is a "central" fund that then distributes the money to the actual bodies that are working on that disaster so as to fund specific projects.
So, in the same way as 00521 describes how Doctors Without Borders reacted to excess funding this means that the smaller and less well know charities who do specialist work get a look in at the donations, rather than the larger ones with big budgets who can run expensive TV & newspaper advertising.

Re: Earthquake Relief Donations...
Could we make it to New Zealand Earthquake relief,
there are nearly 200 deaths, so so many homeless.
NZ is not the warmest country either, they need blanket's and warm clothing,
like anyone else, temperatures are declining, winter & cold snow will come soon.
Even at it's not big country like Haiti, or populated like Haiti,
but they need help too.

Re: Earthquake Relief Donations...
I dont think anything we are going through compares to Haiti's woes........Christchurch now is still better than Haiti was before their quake.
But donations can go to the NZ Red Cross and probably other places too.
Dont forget those Hatians just because they arent news!! And thanks for your good thoughts.

And now...
Perhaps this thread title could be edited to reflect a thread where disaster aid sites can be listed?
