I don't know about that. Bernie is full of shit half the time. This could be one of those things he said in passing. Hopefully Marussia will make it.

It has been confirmed, and they too have gone into administration.

Is this the lowest the sport has been...ever? Any of you guys who have been following longer than me want to confirm that?

They will also both probably miss Brazil as the transport arrangements funded by F1 are contracted to take the cars from Austin to Brazil, so if they are not in Austin they will need funds to make their own transport from their bases to Brazil!

Seems to me that we will have three car teams soon.

I don't actually mind three car teams.

Me neither, except I believe it needs structure.

Each team should have two experienced drivers and one "Young" driver, thus giving drivers a progression route.

The Constructors Championship should be counted on two nominated drivers, maybe one should be the "Young" driver.

No, many teams have Come, Flopped, Died... and 'Went'.

Lets see...

Mercedes, Lancia, Maserati, ERA, Connaught, BRP, Vanwall, Scarab, Gordini, Alta, JBW, ENB-Maserati, Porsche, ATS, Equipe Scirocco Belge, Aiden-Cooper, De Tomaso, BRM, Honda, Cooper, Bellasi, Connew, Eifelland, Penske, Hill, Matra, Hesketh, Shadow, Arrows, Ensign, Berta, Fittipaldi, Wolf, Kauhsen, Merzario, Brabham, Alfa Romeo, Spirit, Modena Lamborghini, Dome-Mugen Honda, Martini, Tecno, Larousse, Ligier, Osella, Lotus, Bennetton, Scuderia Italia, Lola, Toyota, Tyrell, Minardi, Prost, Jordan, Jaguar, Stewart, BAR, Brawn.

Waaaaay, too many to count... in fact... (and ... I know I've missed a FEW).

Yes... F-1 will even survive this... and BE's passing, also.

A long list there but not all flopped and Failed! Brawn, Jordan, Bennetton to name a few. They surely had successes and rather than failed, they moved on with new owners.

An after the fact thought;

Was anyone else puzzled when Marussia only ran one car at the last race. They claimed it was out of respect to Bianchi but at the time I thought, they are saving money on tyres, fuel, engines, gearbox and possibly driver fees?

Totally agree.
I would rather have performing teams than under performing ones.

I feel cross because Prodrive tried to get in a few years back but were prevented as they didn't want to use a Cosworth engine at that time so were blocked by Mosley (let me know if I remember that wrong). In exchange we got teams with less credible chances at survival. Just MHO.

Rus,

Funny you should mention that, as I have actually thought about it quite a bit of late

Truly a shame.  They could have definitely been contenders.

The "BM Club" (BernieMax) just did not want them.

Pay 2 Play.

It's sad that 'bad?' regulation changes can drive a whole era of motorsports into the grave. I've heard that the new power train costs vast more than former regulations did. Also the engine freeze contributes to lack of interest in the public eye since teams have no chance to catch Mercedes without still a change. The sound is horrible both on TV and on track. Please.... make it a racing competition again. Sorry for letting my despair out on you guys...

The Force India/Sauber/Lotus boycott threat is starting to sound more like they are holding Bernie at ransom.

Hopefully they can find some sort of agreement that distributes the money more fairly, rather than just giving those three teams more money, because that isn't fair either.

So guys, Marussia is officially dead. I guess those two Indian blokes decided against buying out the team. A shame, but in 5 years, who will remember Marussia? Who even remembers HRT? I hope some new teams come forward that actually have a hope in the sport. Prize money is one thing, but I doubt Marussia would have won a race even with Ferrari's budget.
