Mark Webber Injured

Post by RaySinKa on Mon 1 Dec - 7:16:30

BBC Report

Former Formula 1 driver Mark Webber was injured in a crash in a World Endurance Championship race in Brazil but is "awake and alert" at a medical centre.

The Australian, 38, who quit F1 last year after a 12-year career featuring nine grand prix wins, was racing for Porsche at the Six Hours of Sao Paulo.

Race organisers said there had been a collision between his car and the Ferrari of Italy's Matteo Cressoni.

A statement on Webber's website said he was having further medical checks.

Hard impact, but doesn't seem like anything too serious could have happened to him. Déjà vu perhaps?

I got this update after the incident:
Mark spent the night in a local hospital in São Paulo where he underwent further checks. He sustained bruising and concussion in the accident he suffered in Sunday’s six-hour race.

"I’m quite sore this morning and am pretty bruised and have got a stinking headache," Mark said earlier today. "I’ve got no recollection of the accident or how it happened - the team is looking into the details to find out more.

"Thanks to the medical team at the track and here at the hospital who did a great job and are looking after me very well.  On a positive note it’s great that the boys in the other car managed to bring home the victory which is a fantastic way to finish off the season. I’m already looking forward to getting out there again next year."

Mark is still under care at the hospital but is set to return to the UK later this week.

The race was on recently and I didn't watch it... and deleted the recording.

Could not watch the trace, knowing disaster was about to strike Webbo.

Just happy he's relatively OK.

I think LeMans style cars may be the most attractive type to look at.

And also Im glad Mark is reasonably OK.
