Volkswagen close to buying Red Bull F1 team???

If true...whoa! I'm a huge Audi fan, too btw.

This thread can also be used for further "What's RedBull gonna do?" talks!

Red Bull, sure are in pickle. Ferrari can pretty much dictate the terms of engine deal.

The real questions are:

1) branding / corporate fit and 2) the 2018 date.

Audi F1, yes.
VW F1 no.
Porsche F1...  sure... been there before.

2) 2018?

Two years running with Ferrari engines, while under VW ownership???... or is this just a ploy to get Ferrari F1 engine technology into 'Audi LeMans Racing'... or a future 'Porsche F1'... not that Audi need it with their diesels, but if VW owns Red Bull and they run Ferrari engines, and VW-Porsche-Audi... there will naturally be cross-pollination...

BTW, I think in the family restructuring, Porsche owns something like 51.5% of VW now, and VW management runs VW-Porsche-Audi. VW got the Porsche technology and Porsche got the VW management, input, and direction.

Something like that. (LOL)

That is a little hard to imagine. An Audi-Ferrari-RedBull? Smile

But of course the Audi-RedBull combo is a great match. Fits perfectly marketing-wise.

Huh? Lauda:

"Actually nobody (from Red Bull) asked us, but I do believe that Ferrari would have interest and would be able to give engines to Red Bull," he told Kleine Zeitung newspaper.

Here's an exclusive German article on the subject:

http://www.autobild.de/artikel/audi-ab-2018-mit-red-bull-am-start-6078603.html

key points:

- a decision in principle has been made

- Audi/RedBull partnership, with RedBull essentially becoming the sponsor of the team

- starting in 2018, led by Stefano Domenicali (lol, please no!)

- Audi would exit all the other series they're currently involved in (DTM, LeMans...)

- development of the engine will start as soon as the deal is signed

So we'd see RedBull with a Ferrari engine for the next two years, and then Audi will take over the team.

Audi is convinced the 2018 regulations will get F1 back to where it belongs.

I would think Alonso is trying everything he can to get into another team (any team!!)
for next year. It would also suit McLaren right now to save on his massive salary...

I hope something happens, I don't like seeing his talent being wasted as it is now.

Toto Wolff explains why Mercedes will not supply Red Bull

Red Bull demands Ferrari engine parity to stay in F1

LolRoll

So after badmouthing Renault in public in the worst possible way for more than a year, completely defying the reason for them to be an engine supplier in F1, they are now publicly demanding the right to dictate the conditions relative to their potential new engine supplier? These guys crack me up. Who wouldn't want to do business with such a great "partner"?

Marko said his team could accept using Ferrari engines that are slightly down on power compared to the works team, but would not accept a big discrepancy.

Ok, this is how it's going to go down:

If RedBull happens to be ahead of Ferrari next year, they'll brag about having the best team in the universe, and miss no opportunity to point out how they're even beating the works team (humiliating Ferrari).

If they find themselves behind Ferrari, they'll blame them for manipulating the engines they're getting.

If both Ferrari and RedBull happen to be behind Mercedes, they'll say the Ferrari engine is just as bad as Renault's.

Neutral

I'm not even joking.

Why would anyone willingly work with Red Bull after the way they treated Renault?

Right? And yet we all know that Bernie isn't going to allow a RedBull (and Toro Rosso) exit. So if he has to strike another "secret" deal with Ferrari, he will.

Apparently, the way F1 is set up right now, if say Sauber is going to build a car that wins every race, and Ferrari comes last in every race in one season, Ferrari would still get more price money than Sauber!

Some Audi statements:

But as the usual rumour-denial pattern continued, an Audi spokesman told the German news agency DPA: "The Auto Bild report is pure speculation that requires no further comment.

"But the claim that Audi will give up its commitments in the DTM and WEC are without any foundation and are firmly rejected by us," he added.

And an Audi spokesman was also quoted by Germany's Bild newspaper: "Formula one has been discussed from time to time, but the chairman decided against it only a few months ago and nothing has changed."

http://www.newsonf1.co.uk/2015/news/Sep/article_Audi_rejects_latest_Red_Bull_rumours.html

Of course if the Auto Bild report was true, they'd have to say the same thing at this point in the process.

VW might back away from F1 deal due to their cheating on emissions.

I think every motor manufacturer would be found guilty of cheating on emissions..
just the same as they are on their mileage and speed figures.

I don't think the vast majority of VW buyers (or any other make) give a fig as to what
emissions their new car is putting out.

Ecclestone will do whatever is needed to keep RB in F1.
