What nonsense... Ron maybe a little strange at times but has nothing but the good of McLaren at heart...
You don't get to be a (self-made) F1 team owner by being a walking disaster.

The worst team boss in history? You have obviously never heard of the odious Enzo Ferrari, the idiot Eddie Jordan,
the cheating Briatore, the awful Dietrich Mateschitz/ Helmut Marko and many many more..

Past glory obviously. He's been making a fool out of himself the entire season, and it's costing the team dearly. This is just the most recent example.

Yes its been a bad year, or even a bad few years for McLaren (ever since the Mosley hate campaign!!) but
I believe Ron will turn it around even if it is in his own unconventional way....

I wish McLaren nothing but success!!

Here's hoping I get a P1 for Christmas.....

So confirmation came in that Renault will officially become a works team again and buy the financially struggling Lotus team.

Toro Rosso will get 2015 Ferrari engines for next year (will be interesting to see how competitive they can be with those).

Red Bull continues with Renault engines, Renault will get outside help for their engines from Ilmor (hopefully that does help some).

It's a little weird that they're branding the engines "TAG Heuer" (even if that has been done in the past). Still better than say, "Burger King", but...

Phew, finally putting an end to this saga. This went on way longer than I could have ever anticipated. And how little has actually changed, at the end of the day.

Now to VW...I guess this will take a few more years Smile

Zag, do you remember the predictions McLaren made before the season started? Were they aiming for podiums later in the season, or was it victories even?

edit: just found it - they were aiming for at least one victory!

Just for fun, Ron Dennis on the 2015 Honda engine:

On the eve of last year's Japanese Grand Prix, McLaren Group CEO Dennis proudly proclaimed Honda's F1 power unit to be "a piece of jewellery", "mindblowing" and that "the competitiveness of the engine is going to be without question".

Ron Dennis owning up to the latest, hmmm, unfortunate development for him and his team:

Ron Dennis has conceded to a falling out with TAG Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver that resulted in the company jumping ship from McLaren to Red Bull.

A 30-year partnership between McLaren and the luxury watchmaker recently came to an end, adding to the losses of title sponsor Vodafone at the end of 2013, and Hugo Boss.

Why wouldn't any CEO/team boss big-up their team?  '' This engine is an ugly underpowered piece of shite and I fully expect both JB and FA to be trundelling around at the back except when they break down, which they will do often...''

At least we have not heard of anything from McLaren (except from Alonso...) rubbishing Honda like the odious
Red Bull about Renault..

As to TAG, I see it differently.... when you are in the enviable position of Dennis you can decide
what marketing strategy you want regarding your car...  If Ron thought TAG's ideas were too aggressive and
inappropriate for McLaren then good on him for sticking to his principles.

Ok Zag, you still believe Ron Dennis, that's fine. I've come to understand that it's very simple with him:

When he says that "the competitiveness of the engine is going to be without question", there are huge question marks about the engine.

When he says "Alonso wasn't concussed", Alonso was concussed.

When he says "money doesn't even factor into the equation", it's pretty much all about money.

When he says "everything is on target, going to plan", the project is pretty much in shambles.

etc. ad infinitum

But hey, we're always finding out at some point, so...until the next one! I already have a guess...

Interesting...

He also warned that Renault’s return to the top step of the podium may take some time.

"Given the high motivation of our employees in Enstone and Viry, we will take three years to become competitive," said Ghosn.

In light of this:

Red Bull warn Renault are 'at least two to three years' behind Ferrari and Mercedes
