Typical Rosberg victory, lots of luck and very few duels on track. Lewis looked faster all weekend.

Also typical that Kimi's car goes up in flames. Where was he when it broke down?

Ferrari looking close enough to make things interesting. But Australia isn't very representative, right?

Last year the Merc completely destroyed Vettel in third, though.

Kimi was 2nd when the car failed Ferrari is closer but like you said you can never really judge Austrailia but their are somethings that are certain

Renaults engine is 2015 Ferrari powerful Redbull and Toro Rosso are clearly 3rd and 4th fastest force indie and Williams dropped back

Bahrain is next... If last season is any indication, Ferrari could be fastest there...

So I'd say the season is off to an excellent start. Alonso looked fine afterwards... didn't pay attention to McLaren's speed during the race. Only saw Button way, way back.

I guess Haas is showing everyone the way of the future (for new teams wanting to enter F1). Very happy that their clever approach is paying off for them in this way, as this could encourage others to follow that example!

Adding a third tyre choice - at least for this race - was a great idea! Usually teams will have more data on all three, which should make things more predictable, but most likely we'll always see at least some drivers gamble a bit, which is gonna be fun!

Also limiting radio messages is great. Got so tired of the constant driver coaching during the races.

Solid race today. Was lucky enough to get some nice seats in the Prost grandstand (final corner). Got to see some big sparks from Magnussen coming back to the pits with his puncture, Kimi's engine let go, the two Toro Rossos touch and Vettel slip toward the end. Most action I've seen at the race for sure!

Great race all round. Great to see the Mercs struggle from the start and Alonso's crash was massive. Still ended in a ROS-HAM-VET though!

I'm curious, I thought they changed the ability to change tyres under the red flag after that late red flag in Monaco a few years back that allowed Vettel to cruise to victory? Also, what was with restarting the race under a safety car? Was kind of disappointed...

The future seems to look bright:

While Vettel was 1.4 secs behind in qualy in Melbourne and finished 34 secs behind the cruising Mercs last season, it's not even clear by how much the Ferrari was really slower than the Mercs during the race today on what Vettel calls "one of their worst" tracks.

With Bahrain coming up, last season Vettel qualified 2nd, only 4 tenths behind Lewis, and Kimi finished the race 2nd, less than 4 secs behind Lewis.

While there are lots of variables, I wouldn't be surprised to see Vettel winning the next one...

I don't know what the rules say, but doing a standing start would have been even more awesome! They should certainly consider it in situations like this. Much better for the spectacle, and really, no reason against it (that I'm aware of).

Didn't like the "changing tyres" thing either. You're basically punishing those guys who've picked the "right" strategy, and rewarding those that didn't. Unfair in my book.

Absolutely... allowing all to change tyres lost Lewis his 'advantage'...  enjoyable race even so!

Good to see some teams agreeing with my preference for qualy!

Williams technical director Pat Symonds said while his team voted to go back to the old system, more time should have been taken before that decision was made.

"There was absolutely no need to make a decision on Sunday at all," Symonds said.
"When you're being accused of jerking your knees, surely that is the last thing you do.

"As a team, we suggested - as we had to make a suggestion - keeping the new format for the first two parts of qualifying and then reverting for the third one.

"We also tried hard to make the point that we should be open to a further change if necessary but not in haste.
"But the majority vote was to go back."

Symonds added he felt the knockout format had the desired effect in the first and second parts of qualifying.
"[Daniil] Kvyat made a mistake and Valtteri [Bottas] didn't get his correct position so yes, it had exactly the effect they were looking for," he said.

"You don't want everyone higgledy piggledy all over the place.
"With a couple of guys out of position, I don't see much wrong with that."

Not that it makes any difference now.

Hehe...since Arrivabene apparently isn't the type of guy willing to own up to mistakes, basically every other team principal, drivers and even Pirelli sorta do it for him. I find that pretty amusing! Wink

Pretty awkward for the proud Italian.

...and the "Douche of the Race"-Award goes to...

Max Verstappen says he does not care about Toro Rosso team orders because he will normally be "miles ahead" of Carlos Sainz at races.

It will be fun rooting against this brat.

Lots of articles and comments out there claiming Mercedes is hiding its true pace, and they could lap the entire field if they wanted to. I don't really agree with that, but it seems I'm in a very small minority.

Your thoughts on relative pace?

Surely if that were true then Nico would have been right up behind Seb at the beginning of the race and Lewis would not have spent so much time languishing in 6/7...   Also Lewis would not have been caught, and probably overtaken, if Seb hadn't made a mistake.
I think there maybe a little more from Mercedes if they wanted it but I don't see them sandbagging to any great extent...
