I went to the Toronto Indy yesterday....

Post by JPS4ever on Mon Jul 18, 2016 4:31 pm

Never been a huge Indy fan but I got some free VIP passes to a box overlooking the pits for yesterday's Toronto Indy. Man, is the culture ever different than F1. Very American. They said a prayer right before the anthems....very strange. At least half the pit crew members were over weight. The obvious differences in the racing of course....lots of safety cars. It was good to see Montoya, Bourdais and Sato again at least.

If I was America I have no doubt what my #1 Motorsport would be. It's really a fantastic spectacle and way more accessible to fans...at least for those who it isn't broadcast to at 4am in the morning Laughing

Hehe, I know absolutely nothing about Indycar! Some sort of car racing that takes place (I guess) mostly in the US. That's the full extent of my knowledge about it!

I definitely suggest suggest watching it. The road races especially always have great action and the cars look so fun to drive.

I've watched quite a bit... the apparent need for unnecessary safety cars to close up the field
is very annoying... most of the drivers wouldn't get into any F1 (or Formula Ford for that matter) team,
except for one or two ex F1 drivers.

But it can be interesting especially the fat mechanics who look as though they would have a
hard time getting a job at Halfords...  and Jarnooo is quite correct, the road races are much
better.

Its motor racing, but not as we know it....

Agree about the safety cars. Plus a rolling start too. I certainly prefer F1 but it was fun to go to a race.....for free anyway Wink

Easier said than done! It's completely ignored where I live. Not just the German news sites I visit, also the English ones. And there's zero TV coverage here!

But is the current F1 format?

Rolling Safety Car starts if it rains.
Attacking driving gets penalties, often not deserved.
Grid penatlies held over from one race to the next.
Tyre conservation.
Fuel limitations.

It's certainly not as I would run it!!

Never known why the teams don't have more of a clout in what should and shouldn't be happening.
I know a break-away has been talked of many times in the past but has always fallen down with teams
not agreeing (or Bernie offering a certain team more money!).
For some reason all sports are run by clueless dinosaurs or those more interested in how much they
can make or how many jollies they can go on.

I mean who the hell would appoint Sam Allardyce..  another old northern guy who you might talk to in a
pub but to run the English football team.. give me a break..  The FA (like the FIA) are clueless!!
