STALKER - Call of Pripyat

Post by Dave on Thu 18 Feb - 2:23:59

The original STALKER is one of my favourite games. The sequel, Clear Sky, was so riddled with bugs that I vowed never to buy another game produced by the developers.

Well that vow didn't last and, after reading early reviews stating 'no crashes!' I bought Call of Pripyat. It feels a LOT smaller than the original STALKER but it's bloody good and in reality probably not much smaller. It's still got the creepiness of the first game but with the brilliant landscaping and lighting of the sequel (minus the crashes). Definitely recommended even if, like me, you were put off by the crashes of earlier games.

Cool.

How big is big?? Compared to say Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2

Far Cry 2 is about the size of a postage stamp as it's just the same places and people used over and over...

It doesn't FEEL as big as Fallout 3, possibly because you have to travel between 3 zones. There certainly isn't that 'oooh I discovered a new location' feeling you get with Fallout 3 or indeed with the original STALKER. BUT the creepy atmosphere and the gameplay itself make up for it.

I am not usually impressed with clever graphics but the sunlight and weather conditions etc in this game are awesome!

Sorry, I'm all gamed out at the moment. Already got three games on pre-order, I can't really justify spending any more money right now.

Ive just started Assassins Creed 1 and am working through Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Las Vegas as a single player for the first time (as oppossed to co-op).

Do you think I need to have done the previous Stalkers to enjoy this one?

It seems there are a lot of good games in the bargain bin right now (which are still decent quality).

No I don't think so although the original is worth getting anyway cos it's good. Probably cheap now. The original is exactly the kinda game I think you'd like Rus.

You know, I thoroughly enjoyed the hitman series, beat all of them, I am a very patient gamer, etc. Assassinations are my thing. But Assassins Creed simply did not click with me. I don't enjoy that game. Don't know why, I thought I would...

One thing I like about Rainbow 6 (apart from the human Co-op) is that you get teammates to help and keep you company. Im finding they are a good balance between being helpful and intelligent, and not doing too much for you and making it too easy.

I would like to do Fallout 3 again but concentrating on getting a capable teammate early.

Think I have played Fallout 3 to death now! Hopefully number 4 will be round the corner. By the way, if you buy STALKER, you get 10 bucks off Call of Pripyat so that's only 19 bucks.

Re: STALKER - Call of Pripyat

Fallout: Vegas comes out this year, probably around June or something. It should be a similar game to the previous, but it has been made by another studio. I'm sure they use the same game engine, but this team is the same team that made the Neverwinter Nights games (very different type of game, but at least this is a proven design team).

The gimmick this time around is that Vegas has been semi-preserved, and appears to be a working living city.

Yeah I read about that. They are saying it's definitely not a sequel but sounds interesting. There's a game out soon called Metro something or other set in the Moscow Metro system which looks good.
